Build relationships with comments

Blog commenting is slowly disappearing.

Even high-traffic blogs with a lot of commenters will find most reactions to their posts on other social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.  Your fans don’t have to comment on your blog to say their piece.  This trend is expected to continue.

If you want to reinforce your established connections, retweet posts on Twitter and like posts on Facebook.  If you wish to build deeper connections, write thoughtful comments on a blogger’s beloved blog posts. That should do the trick.

  1. Hi Rosh, I agree with your comments on commenting, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on the whole Disqus vs Intense Debate vs native commenting systems. I’ve read enough sites comparing and arguing for and against them, and I notice you use “standard” comments, without any bells and whistles, nor any option to subscribe to the comments from an individual post. If you’ve covered it already, I can’t find your take on the matter…

    Thanks!

I read all the time that commenting helps build traffic to your own website/blog and builds community. I dont comment that often but I think now I might make it a goal to see what kind of effect it has if any relationship contacts.

Thanks for reminding me to do this
    Happy New Year!

  3. I’ve not really covered topic. I use Disqus on other blogs and client blogs when it fits. New media photographer has Disque installed but not activated. When it first came out I really didn’t like it and thought it to be a barrier. It is much better today.

I do like the ability to place any link under my name with the standard option. Comment names that lead to my Twitter account does little for my blog development.

  4. Hello Rosh,

I happened across your book “The Linked Photographers’ Guide” just last week in the bookstore. I bought a copy. I have resisted Twitter and some other forms of social media because I had preconceived beliefs – but thanks to your book I can now say I’m on Twitter and finding it useful. Thanks for writing such a clear and direct and timely book.
