Photographers and their websites

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Today I share a few observations about photographers and their websites.

Check in; we are thinking of you

Checking in at various locations and venues using sites such as Foursquare, Gowalla, and Facebook has become popular over the last couple of years.

But what about those members of your social community who have drifted off to the back page? When was the last time you commented on one of their posts or tweets? When was the last time you said “hello”? Remember, these are the same people you interacted with a year ago or more when you got into social media.

You know who they are.

Everyone does it.  Over the next year you will gain members and lose others.  It doesn’t matter who strayed from the group. Take the time to look for them.  They miss you.

Check in; let them know you are still around.  You never know, you just might rekindle important parts of your community.

Accept credit cards on your phone

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Last week I received a little white square device that plugs into my Android phone.  It allows me to easily swipe credit cards for payment for products or services.  Does this sound useful?  Would you like one?

Sorry, you can’t purchase it.

It’s free.

All you have to do is sign up for  Square credit card processing service and the company will send you this free device. It  is available for the iPhone, the iPad, and Android phones.

There are no contracts, monthly fees, or merchant account required. Square readers can accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards with no limits. The money is delivered directly to your checking account.

Rates for this service are 2.75 percent plus 15 cents for swiped transactions, and 3.5 percent plus 15 cents for keyed-in transactions. It’s not the cheapest in credit card processing, but with no machines to purchase, no monthly minimums or fees to pay, I’m willing to give up a small percentage.
