Accept credit cards on your phone
Tuesday, February 15th, 2011Last week I received a little white square device that plugs into my Android phone. It allows me to easily swipe credit cards for payment for products or services. Does this sound useful? Would you like one?
Sorry, you can’t purchase it.
It’s free.
All you have to do is sign up for Square credit card processing service and the company will send you this free device. It is available for the iPhone, the iPad, and Android phones.
There are no contracts, monthly fees, or merchant account required. Square readers can accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards with no limits. The money is delivered directly to your checking account.
Rates for this service are 2.75 percent plus 15 cents for swiped transactions, and 3.5 percent plus 15 cents for keyed-in transactions. It’s not the cheapest in credit card processing, but with no machines to purchase, no monthly minimums or fees to pay, I’m willing to give up a small percentage.
