What’s changing at New Media Photographer?

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

I advise my clients that it’s best to focus on one blog, Twitter account, and Facebook page as well as other social media accounts.  It is hard enough to keep up with all these social media channels. Attempting to manage multiple accounts on the same platform is almost impossible to do well without a full-time commitment.  It is important to  keep your efforts focused, streamlined and simple.

If you have two blogs or other multiple social media accounts, you will have to divide your time and ideas or duplicate your content efforts.  Offering the same information between similar accounts doesn’t seem practical in my opinion.

As people grow in the social media realm, they add, subtract and adjust platforms based on their changing focus and goals.

My friend Dean and I started Prosperous Artists, a new blog and podcast, in the spring 2007 after a couple of years away from previous Internet projects.  We produced more than 140 podcasts and hundreds of blog posts. We had reasonable success.

In 2008, just a little more than a year later, I launched New Media Photographer to support my speaking and consulting ambitions. Eventually Prosperous Artists faded.  Almost three years later and with more than 140 podcasts and hundreds of blog posts, New Media Photographer has become a fabulous community and my speaking career is better than I could have imagined.  In light of that I realize it is again time to refocus my efforts.

I’m not abandoning this blog.  I will continue to offer my weekly podcast.  My writing will move to The Driven Business blog.

I have a lot of great ideas percolating. Many encompass social media and digital marketing and can be applied to industries outside of photography.   It’s time for me to expand and develop a new experimental playground.

I will continue to report to my photography community through the podcast and the occasional blog post on New Media Photographer when I feel my ideas will support the photography community. You can subscribe to the podcast through iTunes here.

I will maintain both the New Media Photographer Facebook page and my @roshsillars Twitter account. Much of my routine will be the same; the biggest change will be where I blog.

I appreciate and cherish the New Media Photographer community.  I look forward to continuing to support you.
