Using Hootsuite to space good-well-thought-out-content out is scheduling, whereas setting up a bot or app to autopost stuff to another platform so you don't have to think is automating.
for me at least, my experience in being a photographer with social media has almost been like a social science in a way of trying to craft and create content that is going to attract and engage reponses in the form of comments, retweets, repins etc... its challenging and at times I still dont feel like I have answers. and with so many people tweeting, posting etc... I understand that the viewer can become rather desensitized. I know I am when i'm scanning through my twitter wall, facebook wall or google reader headlines. i guess what i'm trying to say is, is that social media activity is constantly changing and the challenge is to find new tricks, tactics and ways to engage.

Thank you for the comment.

I generally use the solar system description I describe in my books. The unfortunate thing, using your analogy, is too many people sit at the hub throwing stuff out there and never hitting the road for engagement.

Hi there.

Basically you are the hub and the tyres of the social media link wheel! The Hub being - your ideas, concepts and thoughts. The tyre you responses, rationales and interactions with your clients/ viewers.

The wheel spokes are the social media tools you choose to use or not use.

The road surface the journey that you want your time and money to travel along. That is your personal interactions with the clients / viewers. Thus understanding, 'friendship, common method and direction are developed.

Would this be a fair visual description.

Thanks for the comment Scott. I love using hootsuite, you just have to be there for your community and think about where your sending everything -- in my opinion.

Automation is like everything else - a certain balance is required. A couple of times I've used it myself (through Hootsuite) when something special is happening or I want to reach out at different times for a new post. But all the time IMO defeats the purpose of true interaction. You might as well shout from a megaphone.

I've also seen linking backfire pretty spectactularly - one person posted a picture of themselves on Twitter slamming down a drink in an unflatteringly way. And it auto posted to their LI feed.
