What To Do When Clients Stop Calling

We all panic when the phone stops ringing and the emails slow down. The photography business is feast or famine for many. Sometimes we think, it caught up to us, it was a good ride, it’s now over. Wrong.

Of course, it’s never over until you give up. Was it over when the Germans Bombed Pearl Harbor?. No!. We never quit. There are things you can do to get business moving again.

The first thing you must do is get back in circulation. Get out of your office, home or studio. Meet with people, shake hands and change your attitude. I find it amazing how once you shake off the dust and take, even a little positive action, new clients magically appear.

Attitude plays are larger role than we wish to admit.

Below is a list of ten things you can do to get back in circulation to help attract and drive new business.

  1. Attend a networking event. You can find events on meetup.com and Facebook.
  2. Follow up with everyone you promised to follow-up with when you were busy.
  3. Connect with clients and vendors on social media.
  4. Research new photography markets.
  5. Develop new tools and processes to help people refer you.
  6. Let people on Facebook know you have a few openings.
  7. Cold call ten companies on your target list.
  8. Go to a new town or location and photograph for the fun of it.
  9. Update your website, this is helpful for SEO (search engine optimization).
  10. Advertise in social media, such as Instagram.

When business is slow, the worst thing you can do is nothing. Catch up on all the things you said you would do when you didn’t have time. Once you complete those tasks, reach out to other people. Take friends, clients and vendors to lunch.

If you have activities which help you get business moving again, put them in the comments. Below is a helpful video from one of my live streams. What to do when clients stop calling.
