  1. Hi Rosh,
Interesting idea! But that’s mean I have to contact every contact you already have in your LinkX list to do the exchange? I would be nice to have a system in place to have this automate. I mean, like I would like to add my name in your list so I will send you an email, I will put you on my LinkX list but also all the members already on your list. Them, you will send an email to all members in your list to add me on their lists… and so on, everytime a new member join. Manually, this system is not good because it’s require a lot of work but an automatic system like an email robot system something will be perfect… What do you think?
Also, where is your LinkX list on your website? Can’t find it… I may be blind. :)

      Hi Fred,

I’m happy to link back to you. I don’t have a LinkX on rosh.com. I try not to trade links from the same site. Let me know how you want to link back to your site from here.

      Rosh

  2. Hi Rosh,
Thank you. Well maybe something like this:

Frederic Sune Photography – Freelance photographer in Ottawa, Ontario – Canada http://www.fredericsune.com

Is it too long? Also, how I can put a link back to your site? On my website or somewhere else like my own stock photography website at http://www.ottawastockphotos.com? Let me know…

And thanks again for the brilliant idea and also, for everyone reading the New Media Photographer, I recommend you to subscribe to the newsletter. Amazing information on it! And Rosh share it for free… Even better.

    Enjoy,
    Frederic

    Hi Rosh,

I think what you are trying to do is get Google and others to raise the search validity of your website by getting people like me to reference your site in exchange for us getting listed on http://www.newmediaphotographer.com/linkx/

This to me is a win win because your listing us will raise our cred with Google and others too.

    Did I get it?

For my part of the exchange, I will mention http://www.rosh.com/ in my BLOG. It would be too hard to work it into the website and harder to trace back the exchange (see below).

My business is located in Australia BTW.

One word of caution: Google, and others will blacklist the exchange and maybe links therein if they determine it is an attempt to game the system.

    • Rosh says:

      Hi Ken,

I think you got it. This all started in an effort to be number one for Detroit Photographer. It’s a year long project.

I’m not worried about Google. We are offering links to photography sites from a photography related site. In other words we are creating a valid resource. Google should have no problem with the exchange.

Hey, I’ll be in Australia in October. (South Australia)

Thinking more on this, and I’m not paranoid (at least not diagnosed), it might be best for you to be more subtle instead of calling this a “LinkX is a community of photographers trading links to their websites for SEO purposes.” The search engine folks have seen it all before and they do cut off websites. You may be able to fly under the radar, but don’t count on it. How about making it a list of colleagues or professional photographers?

  5. Andrew says:

I have a bit of problem with the way you’re doing this. You’re asking other photographers to link to rosh.com, which may boost the page rank of that site (currently it’s 3/10). However, in exchange, you’re linking back to them from this page, which currently has no page rank. and since no one is linking to it the rank will likely never increase. So the link backs you’re providing aren’t really worth much. I think to be a fair exchange the reciprocal link should be placed on rosh.com, so that as the page rank of that increase so will the value of the reciprocal links.

    • Rosh says:

      Andrew,

I’m more than happy to link some people from rosh.com. I prefer not to have a lot of direct reciprocal links. New media photographer has PR of 4 and a heck of a lot more traffic and opportunity for people trading links with me. I even have a place for people on the front page of newmediaphotographer.com (under network) if preferred. But even if I place the links at rosh.com I would put them on the link page there offering the same PR. Plus, may people are linking to rosh.com from link pages. So, eccentually it’s the same and I find value in their links.

The page I’m linking from has good root domain authority, is about photographers, and is linking to a photographers websites. That does have value in my opinion. If other people see no value in it, they don’t have to participate.

      Thanks for the comment.

      Rosh

  6. Andrew says:

I hope I didn’t sound too critical, and I do appreciate your site and the content it provides. I just thought you might be missing the point of reciprocal links. Here’s how Google describes it: “PageRank interprets a link from Page A to Page B as a vote for Page B by Page A. PageRank then assesses a page’s importance by the number of votes it receives. But that’s not the end of the story. If Page A itself has more votes from other pages, the vote carries more weight. Or to put it another way, if more people trust your site, your trust is more valuable.” It just sounds like your asking Page A to vote for Page B, but in return you’re linking back to them from Page C.

    • Rosh says:

      I appreciate your comments Andrew.

I honestly don’t think too much about PR rank – though it is part of the equation. I think the bottom line is you need links from multiple sources and types of locations. LinkX is just another way to develop a link community. It’s best to engage in multiple methods including Google’s favorite – create great content and people will link to you.

      Thanks again,

      Rosh

  7. Just started listening to your podcast and I’m interested in exchanging links. I would love to add something to my site.

My photography blog is Through the Lens of Kimberly Gauthier -kimberlygauthier.com. I write with the amateur photographer in mind.

I’ll have a link to your site up on my site in 24 hours :)

    Thanks so much!!!

  8. Hi Rosh! I noticed that my link is “the Lens of Kimberly Gauthier” – the “Through” was dropped. I’m not sure if this makes a difference or not since the link is working.

Thanks so much for adding me to the list. I’ve already connected with two people :)
