Thoughts from the road

Friday, July 25th, 2008

After a week on the road shooting in Northern Alberta and Vancouver, B.C., I’m ready for home.

I was unable to upload my podcast.  I’ll do that when I return.  I don’t have an .aiff to mp3 converter on my laptop. But, I guess the real issue is I have an older version of garageband on my laptop, maybe an upgrade would be the best solution.

I have a number of new posts coming along.  Next time I’m away for an extended period of time I’ll have to set some posts up ahead of time.  I think this blog is shaping up well, but I still have some serious catch-up to do to move it past par.

On the road, email and twitter have been good communication tools.  I always keep a disk of current projects with me on a CD in case a client needs something while I’m away from my office and studio.

A laptop is mandatory these days. It allows me to edit and back up the photographs I’m working on while on location.  I also think it’s a good idea to back up to a CD, flash or a separate hard-drive on a regular basis.

Redundancy is important.  Redundancy is important.  Make sure you have back-ups to everything you will need on your shoot and to protect yourself from losing files.
