How long can we call it new media?

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Maybe you’ve noticed?

I’ve changed the name and theme of my blog.  New Media Photographer was the core of my social media world for more than three years.  It’s  been my pride and joy.

Although I’ve been podcasting and sharing ideas in various forms online for more than a decade,  the New Media Photographer  blog and podcast put me on the map.

I am grateful to all who have been a part of the New Media Photographer community and have supported my efforts.

When I started New Media Photographer, I knew I could not keep the name forever.  How long could new media be a cutting-edge term?  I would make the change now before the phrase  becomes obsolete.

Rather than create a new blog with a catchy title that I may have to change in the future, I decided to transfer the blog to my home domain, roshsillars.com.  Many of my professional photography portfolios are subdomains of roshsillars.com. This domain is the perfect location for my professional blog.

I will continue to share ideas on digital marketing and social media.  I’ve expanded my focus to creative professionals as a whole.  Of course, photographers are still my core audience.

I’ll continue to record the podcast.  If you already subscribe to the blog or podcast, you will not have to do a thing.  All feeds should be delivered as normal.

I look forward to years of sharing.

Six ways to network with bloggers

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

If you are trying to drive traffic to your blog, networking is a great way to go about it.

We know the more you blog, the more traffic you will earn.  There are people who would like your blog if they could find it. But they are not because of the keywords they are using to search. The social media circles in which they travel also play a role.

These people are not doing anything wrong; we all do it.

Every blogger has a community of people around them.  Some blogs share similar communities, but no two blogs have the exact same communities following them.

This is why it is important to network with other bloggers.  Sharing opportunities, traffic, and communities for mutual benefit will increase traffic quicker than going it alone.

Here are six ways bloggers can work together:

  • Trade blog roll links
  • Guest post on each other’s sites
  • Write features on blogs within your network (at different times)
  • Tweet each other’s best posts
  • Form a new blog with multiple bloggers to create a new community
  • Comment on blogs and share links from your network relevant to the post

What methods would you add?
