Two Important Keys To Success

Success Principles

The older I get, the more I realize the truth behind the following basic principles of success. Unfortunately, when you are young, you think there must be a better, faster way. Hey, who am I to say it can’t be done. The fact is about .001% (estimate) actually do achieve a better and faster way. You can play the odds. For the rest of us, there are some basic principles which work rather effectively over time.

The first truth is persistence. I first read about the powerful idea of persistence when I was twenty. My father introduced to the powerful book The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino.  Og stated in the third scroll; I will persist until I succeed.

Here is the full statement:

I will persist until I succeed.

I was not delivered into this world in defeat, nor does failure course in my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion and I refuse to talk, to walk, to sleep with the sheep.

The slaughterhouse of failure is not my destiny.

I will persist until I succeed.

If you read my early journals, you will see this statement repeated often. Og was someone I had the honor of being around regularly until his death in 1996. His words made quite an impact on my life.

Persistence means you keep going and don’t give up. If you look at the winners and overnight successes of the world, they tend to be the people who kept going longer than most. If you are looking for a good book on this subject, consider Seth Godin’s The Dip.

Whether it’s getting through art school, knocking on enough doors or waiting for compound interest to turn into real money. Persistence (with patience) is what makes winners. Below is a video I created for people trying to build their YouTube channels. The concept I present here can be applied to much of life. Work backwards from your goal, give yourself check points along the way and keep reaching.

The next idea is action. I know so many people with good ideas who never take the first step. People who wish to start their own business, travel or write a book often never even create the file folder to store their first draft. It’s always someday, they need more information or the right time.

I was talking with my friend Andrew. He just published and launched his first book. It took him two years of hard work to complete. He had to work through road blocks and unexpected issues along the way. Due to some glitches, his last task to upload the book to Kindle took eight days to complete. Yet, despite all the frustration, he persisted. His book would have never come to be, if he didn’t take the first action steps. He is now an expert.

By the way, here is a little plug for my friend Andrew. It’s a very interesting book: Master Betrayal: The Conspiracy to Kill Jane Bashara. — A true story.

Yes, Og Mandino had something to say about taking action too.

I will act now. I will act now. I will act now.

Henceforth, I will repeat these words each hour, each day, everyday, until the words become as much a habit as my breathing, and the action which follows becomes as instinctive as the blinking of my eyelids.

With these words I can condition my mind to perform every action necessary for my success.

I will act now. I will repeat these words again and again and again.

I will walk where failures fear to walk.

I will work when failures seek rest. I will act now for now is all I have.

Tomorrow is the day reserved for the labor of the lazy. I am not lazy.

Tomorrow is the day when the failure will succeed. I am not a failure. I will act now.

Success will not wait. If I delay, success will become wed to another and lost to me forever.

This is the time. This is the place. I am the person.

When I write or speak about the key to success in social media and search engine optimization (SEO) the core principle for both is the same. Activity.

Being active online and in social media earns followers, relationships, authority and rewards. Quality & activity are a killer combination. The people who are highly active, present quality material and keep going over the long-term (persistence) are the people we reference as the social media hero’s.

It doesn’t matter how old you are. You can still act now. Your actions now will compound into benefits later. Persist until you succeed. Celebrate your successes along the way, have multiple goals, so you have something to strive for once you complete and achieve your current focus.

No one gets there the same way. It’s a fact of life, it takes some people longer than others. However, the chances are much greater you will never be a great photographer if you don’t try. So, start now and don’t give up.
